چکیده

INTRODUCTION Minimally invasive surgical techniques offer patients the promise of smaller incisions, less pain, and shorter recovery times [4]. New technologies have allowed this rise in minimally invasive surgery making efficient and effective training of the surgical task vital to the continued success of this technique. Due to the challenging visual conditions and the unintuitive nature of tool manipulation when performing laparoscopic surgery, tremendous training of these skills is required and is often performed through simulators. In fact, there are more surgical training simulators available for laparoscopic training than any other type of medical training task [10].

Mixed Reality System for Neurosurgery based on Operating Microscope

The aim of this project is to provide a Mixed (Augmented and Virtual) Reality platform, both educational, preand intraoperative purposes. The architecture is based on a prototype of a stereoscopic Augmented Reality (AR) microscope for ergonomic intra-operative presentation of complex preoperative three-dimensional structure (obtained by real patient’s images) for neurosurgical interventions rea...

Virtual Training for a Manual Assembly Task

This paper describes an experiment conducted to investigate the benefits of force feedback for virtual reality training of a real task. Three groups of subjects received different levels of training before completing a manual task, the construction of a LEGO biplane model. One group trained on a Virtual Building Block (VBB) simulation, which emulated the real task in a virtual environment, inc...

New Technology Virtual Reality in Neurosurgical Education: Part-task Ventriculostomy Simulation

OBJECTIVE: Mastery of the neurosurgical skill set involves many hours of supervised intraoperative training. Convergence of political, economic, and social forces has limited neurosurgical resident operative exposure. There is need to develop realistic neurosurgical simulations that reproduce the operative experience, unrestricted by time and patient safety constraints. Computer-based, virtual ...

Virtual Reality and Computer-Enhanced Training Devices Equally Improve Laparoscopic Surgical Skill in Novices

BACKGROUND The study aim was to compare the effectiveness of virtual reality and computer-enhanced videoscopic training devices for training novice surgeons in complex laparoscopic skills. METHODS Third-year medical students received instruction on laparoscopic intracorporeal suturing and knot tying and then underwent a pretraining assessment of the task using a live porcine model. Students w...
